Consulting:
Independent Living Plan - Home Safety and Accessibility Assessments and Planning
| What it is: For a Independent Living Plan, one of our certified home assessors will come to your home. The process will take between one and three hours depending on the complexity of your situation and the size of your home. The assessor will review with you your regular activities, help identify what you have trouble doing, and help you prioritize activities you would like to continue to do. Together you will do a walk through of the house, the outside, and every room. After the walk through the assessor will return within a week with a written report identifying ways you can improve the safety and accessibility of your house, divided into free, low cost, mid-range, and higher range modifications according to your budget. |

- Who can benefit: People in many different stages of life can benefit from a home assessment:
- Anyone can benefit from eliminating common cause of injury in the house.
- The active senior who would like to preserve his or her lifestyle and prevent injuries, such as falls, which may limit mobility.
- People returning from the hospital after an illness. These people often need to make accommodations to their home to help their rehabilitation or make their home more assessable given their new health condition.
- People with disabilities, such a low vision, reduced hearing, weakness or paralysis requiring a walker or wheelchair, and people with balance or sensory difficulties.
- Seniors living alone whose families are concerned about their safety who want to make plans to prevent falls, fires, and other potentially injurious accidents, who want to reduce the likelihood of break-ins, or who want to receive help immediately in the case of a medical emergency.
- People with young children, especially toddlers, who would like to baby-proof their homes
